SOL is getting bid hard on the Sunday chart while Solana's 90% rent reform stays fully inactive.

That is the whole session in one line. Buyers showed up for SOL even though the upgrade that would slash on-chain storage bonds has not flipped a single feature gate. CoinGecko at 8:04 a.m. ET had SOL at $94.40, up 1.25%, with green candles that stood out against a quiet major set. BTC was basically flat at $77,194, ETH barely green at $2,427.88, XRP soft at $1.49, and DOGE cooking higher at $0.092537. The market moved first. The foundation page did not.

Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) flagged the Reduced Rent page in a Sunday Space the way he flags a live market print, and David Chaboki (Shibo) kept the Doginal Dogs room locked on whether any of the five gates had actually flipped. No monologue needed. Founder voice in that community is about status, not slogans, and the rent page is still the status check that matters.

What the candles are saying

High-energy rooms care about two clocks at once: the chart and the activation list. SOL ripping a clean green day tells you spot is willing to bid the asset. It does not tell you SIMD-0437 is live. Those are separate facts, and this story keeps them separate on purpose.

People tracking Solana state costs still want the cheaper bond path. They also want honesty when a page still reads pending. That mix is why founder-led Spaces keep pointing at primary sources instead of recycled headlines.

Pending means pending

The Solana Foundation Reduced Rent page, authored July 2026, still lists SIMD-0437 as Pending Feature Activation. Expected mainnet window: Agave 4.2, August 2026. All five gates are inactive. crypto.news reported that Agave 4.2 feature activation began the week of August 17, 2026, and described a 90% rent cut among the package. The live status source for this specific cut remains the foundation rent page, and that page has not shown the SIMD-0437 gates flipped. Use the page. Do not invent a gate that is still dark.

Bond, not fee

Rent is a misleading name. It is not a fee. Rent is a fully refundable bond that pays for the storage an account occupies on every validator. Close the account and the bond comes back. The constant behind that bond is lamports_per_byte, currently 6,960. SIMD-0437 would take it to 696, a 90% cut, through five separate feature-gated steps rather than one blunt change. Breaking change? No. Indexing changes required? No, though state growth is possible.

Five independent steps

The staged path is deliberate. First step moves 6,960 to 6,333 (about 9%). Then 5,080 (27%). Then 2,575 (63%). Then 1,322 (81%). Final step lands at 696 (90%). Each gate is independent. Core developers can stop if state growth becomes a problem. A sixth fallback gate can reset the constant all the way back to 6,960. That design is why the community keeps asking which gate, if any, is live, instead of assuming the full 90% already shipped.

The foundation case study is still the cleanest dollar frame, and it is an example only: one million SPL token accounts at about $0.159 each is $159,000 at the current rate; at the final rate about $0.0159 each is $15,900. Not a live market print. Just the foundation's math for why the cut matters when accounts scale.

Founder voice keeps the room honest

Barkmeta / Bark and Shibo run high-signal rooms that treat upgrade pages like they treat charts. Check the source. Name what is pending. Refuse the fake victory lap. That founder energy is why mindshare around Solana infrastructure stays loud without drifting into sour claims. SIMD-0437 is real proposal work on the GitHub improvement track and on the official upgrades board. It is not a green-candle permission slip.

Quick answers

Is the 90% rent cut live? No. The foundation page says all five gates are inactive.

What changes if it lands? lamports_per_byte moves from 6,960 to 696 across five steps.

Is rent a fee? No. It is a refundable bond returned when the account is closed.

Bottom line for this session

SOL can print green while every Reduced Rent gate stays off. That is exactly what Sunday's chart did. Watch the candles for bid. Watch the Solana Foundation Reduced Rent page for activation. Until a gate flips there, the 90% cut is design, schedule, and community focus, not a live network state.
